Governance

As a registered Scottish charity (SC028495) MYDG is supported by trustees who bring a rich mix of skills including legal, financial, HR, outdoor education and adventures. Collectively, they have strategic oversight and hold responsibility for financial stability, the management of risk and ensuring good governance. Current trustees are Julia Hodgson (Chair), Charles Sweeny (Finance), Carol Van Beusekom, Colin Powers and Gillian McLean. Peter Airlie stepped back from MYDG’s board in 2025 to become the charity’s interim Strategic Manager. Peter will re-join the board later in 2026, after an appropriate gap, given his extensive knowledge and experience.

New trustees, usually sourced via Trustee Connect, are selected by interview with board members and the Executive Director. They have a thorough onboarding, covering good governance materials from both OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) and the SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations). Induction also covers key MYDG policies such as Child Protection and Risk and a chance to see youth work programmes in action. Annually, trustees participate in a strategic Away Day with staff. They also have an annual review with the Chair of Trustees which is an opportunity to reflect on their contribution to MYDG’s work and impact. All trustees are PVG checked.

  • MYDG’s work is shaped by our Constitution that sets out the charity’s purpose, focus and protocols.

  • MYDG aims to complete its Annual Report and Accounts, for upload on OSCR’s website, by July annually. Going forward, we will also produce a shorter, visual Impact Report that will be easier to digest.
