Youth Work Games

The Youth Work Games is something we are most proud of developing at MYDG!

It started in 2012 as a residential idea to coincide with the 2012 Olympic Games. The idea, like most of MYDG’s work, was to give young people an experience they had never had before.

The aim is for young people to build confidence, gain independence, learn problem solving skills and how to work as part of a team.

Youth Work Games gives young people time away from their phones and their usual routines and it encourages active participation in a variety of fun sporting events.

It provides a perfect opportunity to build relationships with other young people as participation from other youth services across Edinburgh is encouraged.

You can watch footage about the Youth Work Games here.

“Since starting at MYDG as a sessional youth worker, my favourite thing has been Youth Work Games. It was such a good experience as I got to lead a team which was challenging at times but amazing. It was such a great time and all the young people got to meet others from the different organisations and make new friends”

July 2027 Event

Book early to avoid disappointment! Email charlene@mydg.org.uk

Following the success of the July 2026 event at Wiston Lodge near Biggar, we will be running Youth Work Games again next year so please get in touch to reserve places for your team(s).

Around 100 young people relish this 3 day camping experience with competitive sports and fun activities. Challenges include swimming and canoeing in the loch, tug-of-war, slip slides, and lots of relay team events that test initiative and speed. There are prizes for winners and for participation. In the evenings, everyone has fun around the campfire with entertainment.

Priced at around £300 per team of 5 (2027 fee to be confirmed), which includes tent hire, events and food, this event is intended to be accessible to all.

For safety reasons, participants must be S1 and above and each team accompanied by a youth work leader who is responsible for them.

MYDG is covered with public liability insurance up to the value of £5 million.
